Be There: Diary from Mississippi I

March 30th, 2006 · No Comments

In a recent episode of Grey’s Anatomy on TV a patient came in with an aneurism. It seemed inoperable, though one doctor knew of a way to treat it. Her reply was “For years, I was living asleep. This woke me up and I’ve been alive ever since. My aneurism and me, we’re good friends.” [...]

Airport to New Orleans

March 16th, 2006 · Comments Off

We were up at 5:30am this morning. Uggh! God isn’t even up that early. A friend replied to that assertion that God is a nightowl to which I heartily agree. While waiting for our connecting flight in Salt Lake to New Orleans, I was walking back through the terminal looking for Starbucks. On my way [...]

I’m a good parent

March 8th, 2006 · No Comments

As a parent, you always have a vague suspicion that you aren’t doing as good as you want. So it warmed my heart to discover that my daughter wanted a Beatles CD for Christmas. And now, my younger children are discovering the Beach Boys’ Pet Sounds. I’m not such a bad parent after all.

February 22nd, 2006 · No Comments

Last night I had the privilege of picking up my daughter at the Boise airport. It was the second time I noticed that the arrivals area of an airport is that happiest place on earth. Both the people waiting and those arriving are anxious to be reunited with their loved ones. It’s nearly festive when [...]

Habits

September 14th, 2005 · 1 Comment

It’s amazing to realize how much I am a creature of habit. Lately the mirror I have been looking into has been my 2 year old son. It first happened when I was making my morning lattes. He would stand by and watch. The next thing I knew, he was anticipating my every move. The [...]

Car repair

August 18th, 2005 · No Comments

Just spent an interminable time waiting for my suburban to get fixed. They don’t expect it to be done until tomorrow so they gave me a loaner car. Got an awful lot done though. Sat in an uncomfortablely hard chair in a coffee shop filled with the aroma of incense. I think I’d burn a [...]

Cargos

August 15th, 2005 · 1 Comment

Finally got myself some new cargo pants. I carry around way too much in my pockets. Wallet (which needs to be cleaned out), cell phone, pocketpc and iPod. Last year I got a pair of jeans that had cargo pockets. I can’t find jeans anymore… that’d be my preference. So I got some light brown [...]

Strange behavior

August 13th, 2005 · 2 Comments

Strangely, my trackpad is working fine again. I was afraid this might happen. You know how when you get sick, and then you finally get to the doctor, you’re afraid that your symptoms will disappear? Or when you need to take the car to the mechanic and suddenly it’s not doing that thing that it [...]
