I am more and more trying to get away from proprietary formats for word processing, i.e. Microsoft Word and Apple’s Pages. This allows portability because files are saved in RTF or straight ascii. One trick I’ve posted before is to set your default application for opening a .doc document in the Mac to textedit. I’m sure the same could be done in Wordpad for the PC.
MacOSXHints has posted a tip for using a keyboard shortcut to outline in textedit. By pushing <option> <Tab> the text will automatically scoot over a half an inch and change the formating so that if the text wraps it stays inside the formatting.
I wonder if there is a similar feature in Wordpad for the PC. Please comment if there is.

Well, this is more of a longcut than a shortcut, but at least you don’t have to use the mouse if that is your goal. In WordPad, Hit Alt-o, then p, then the number of inches you want the left margin set to. You can then Tab to the other fields and enter other paragraph formatting options. Press Enter when done to go back to editing.
