I’m going to take a little excursion and document the problems that I am having with Yahoo mail.
A few months ago, something happened with my password. I don’t know if I changed it, if someone hacked my account and changed it, or it got corrupted. When I went to use the automated retrieval it said that it generated a new one and sent it to my alternate email address. The problem is, it never arrived. I asked it to send my user name to my alternate email address, and lo and behold it did. So, I had the right alternate email address… it’s just that the new password wasn’t going through.
So, I have been in the midst of an email exchange with Yahoo about this. To their credit they will not send me a new password without the answer to my secret question. The dumb thing is, that my answer to the secret question doesn’t work either. This is why I’ve begun to wonder if my account has been hacked. However, the automated retrieval doesn’t require the secret question.
I have gone round and round with Yahoo. There are many frustrating parts of this. First, they haven’t fixed their problem. Their vision is myopic. I get automated responses to clear descriptions of my problem. Second, no one is tracking my problem. I’ve sent numerous emails to them. But each time, I have to reexplain everything. No one is going back and reading the history. Third, they could personally do what their automated system is supposed to do. I am communicating with them from my alternate email address that their automated system should be sending to. If they could get past the letter of their law, they could follow the spirit and realize that they would only be doing what their system is supposed to.
I am going to continue to write occassionally about this until it is resolved. My intention is to give them a public bad name until they fix it at which point I will commend them. Hopefully that will happen soon.

Well, the whole bad name is already in place with me. I left them long ago when Google came to town.
Never went with mail, though. I was caught up in the other tyranical giant hotmail.
Odd, though, how you lost access to your account. Many ‘hmm’s’

Yes, Gmails not as bad as Hotmail or Yahoo in my opinion.

Well I’ve had only good experiences with Yahoo for the past 10 years. However, I cannot get to my mail this morning – no one in my office can. Everything else on Yahoo works except signing in to your email. How do you find out what is going on? Shouldn’t they post a message on the opening page of Yahoo if they are experiencing difficulties.

My yahoo mail is changing from day to day and they will not answer my email questions about what is happening. Very frustrating. How can I force them to answer my questions? At this point I would be encouraged to get a form letter response.

I too, am having problems with Yahoo. I can no longer get into my e-mail account. So, I have been rerouted to go by way of the back door so to speak. And, like Jeffrey, I would attempt to log in to a website to be told, that e-mail address, or sign-in was already in use, when I had never before been to the website.
So, what is going on with Yahoo? I have used it for 8 years and up until recently have never had a problem.
