Smile!

December 17th, 2005 · 5 Comments

Emoti1S1200Just so everyone knows, I may not be smiling on the outside but I’m smiling on the inside. Recently someone said I sort of glare. Then my wife said her co-workers whom I met at a party asked why I don’t smile. Not exactly good words for a pastor to hear. I’m sure for every person who has verbalized this, there are many who haven’t. So I’m on a personal campaign to smile more. Today in the car, I practiced. Yeah, you heard right… I practiced my smile. I looked in the mirror and thought that still doesn’t seem like much of a smile. But I promise. I’m smiling on the inside.

You’ll know it’s there when you notice someone unexpectedly smiling at you. You gave your smile away and they caught it!

You know, the same thing happened to me when I was pastoring a church near the Oregon coast. I had a German guy in my church who claimed that I didn’t smile enough. Of course, he also complained that I was getting fat, took too many showers, etc. I know the pain, man! Little things like this can break us or make us. It’s up to us!

    Blessings to ye! :>/

Whoever says that you don’t smile, just isn’t looking hard enough. As long as I’ve known you, if your mouth wasn’t smiling, you’re eyes always had a little twinkle in them like you had that smile just waiting.
And who cares what they think, right? As long as you know you’re happy, that’s all that matters.
(I’m getting a little too zen for my own good, no?)

Funny, but I tend to have a problem on the other side. I tend to smile on the outside, but not on the inside. Oh well, who cares what people think? Nonconformist, right?

I get told the same thing all the time. I’m also told that I make very harsh faces. Heck, I can barely smile for photos. I never gave much thought to practicing, but thanks for the idea!
