The Coffee Hymn (sung to Holy, Holy, Holy)
by Christopher Raible
Coffee, Coffee, Coffee, Praise the strength of coffee.
Early in the morn we rise with thoughts of only thee.
Served fresh or reheated, Dark by thee defeated,
Brewed black by perk or drip or instantly.
Though all else we scoff we Come to church for coffee;
If we’re late to congregate, we come in time for thee.
Coffee our one ritual, Drinking it habitual,
Brewed black by perk or drip instantly.
Coffee the communion Of our Uni-Union,
Symbol of our sacred ground, our one necessity.
Feel the holy power At our coffee hour,
Brewed black by perk or drip or instantly.
My youngest daughter recently asked me “when will I be old enough to drink coffee?” I guess I’ve made the drinking of a good cup of joe something of a romantic affair in my home.
Coffee is a rather romantic adventure for me. My first cup of coffee came from a coffee shop in Kirkland, WA that served unflavored lattes right about the same time Starbucks was starting out in the early 90′s. So from the beginning, coffee was more then drip. It was espresso and it was a coffee bar where I went to write and read. Today it is still the same. I have an espresso machine of my own. And I enjoy the literary atmosphere of drinking an americano at Barnes and Nobles.
So, my ode to that great universal beverage ends with a collection of links to blogs and articles I’ve recently read on the subject. Brew your favorite blend, sit back and enjoy.

Thanks for the link! Great little post. I agree that coffee can be a romantic affair – especially when it comes to good coffee.
You never know what you’re missing until you become used to good coffee – when you know, it is a love affair with the brew.
