Magic Valley Symphony

February 26th, 2005 · 1 Comment

Last night I had the privilege of attending the concert of the Magic Valley Symphony at the College of Southern Idaho Fine Arts Center. It was a wonderful evening with guest artist Anna Gerrish, pianist, who graduated from Filer, Idaho and went on to get her Masters in Piano performance and pedagogy.

One thing I was struck by in the concert was the miracle of classical music. The time that classical pieces were written were of great poverty and sickness. That these composers were able to work to refine their gift, find funding and perform their works with what must have been a majority of amateur musicians is a miracle.

A highlight of the evening was the performance of Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No.2 in C minor, “The Little Russian.” I have posted copyright free mp3′s of the symphony so that you can enjoy it as well.
