I’ve been a big fan of Tom Peters since the late 80′s when I worked at Eastside Foursquare Church and picked up a copy of Thriving on Chaos. I was very excited to get my hands on his new book,
Project04: Snapshots of Excellence in Unstable Times. To my eyes it is a much more palatable book to the newcomer then his most recent Re-Imagine. Project04 is a short book filled with Tom’s wisdom on how business needs to retool to meet the demands of the future. An example would be the article from his website titled Offshore Manifesto reprinted in the book which deals with the realities of jobs going to India, and how we need to face up to the reality instead of wishing it would just go away. Plenty there to both think about and maybe get mad at him about. I’m not even saying I agree with him. But Tom has a way of looking at the world through a fresh set of eyes and coming up with fresh solutions that I think are worth paying attention to. And I’ve long felt that his leaning towards an extremely flat organizational chart and organizations that reward creativity has lots to say to the institutional church. Project04 is worth the short time it will take to read, and will probably whet your appetite for more. Check out the website TomPeters.com for more.
