The End of Word

May 8th, 2004 · No Comments

One of the benefits I’m noting from the ability to Moblog is that I can rough out multiple drafts and then eventually publish them when the fruit has ripened. Simultaneously, I am getting to know an information management program called Devonthink which has abuilt in rich text editor for making and publishing articles. It has suddenly hit me that in some ways I am seeing the beginning of the end of my use of Microsoft Word. Word has always felt bloated to me and I’ve always had a bit of disdain for the Redmond empire. But previous intentional attempts at moving away from Word to either Appleworks or Openoffice didn’t fit the bill. What it seems I really needed was smaller-scale programs that fit a tighter niche: in this case the organization of documents as well as printing, and web publication via blogging. Viva la revolution.
